A historical marker acknowledging the Evergreen Cemetery in Casselberry was dedicated on March 28, 2009.  The cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries for the burial of black slaves and later, black citizens, in Central Florida, having opened in 1890.  Local churches helped to maintain the cemetery over the years and today it is run by the Evergreen Cemetery, Incorporated with the help of Alton Williams, Chairman.  The cemetery has been known as Altamonte Colored Cemetery, Fern Park Cemetery and Altamonte and Fern Park Community Cemetery.
