The billing process
begins with meter reading. These readings
are then transferred electronically to our
computer system where they are posted to
the individual accounts. The Senior Staff
Assistant then manually verifies the computer
reports. She checks for high/low consumption,
zero consumption, and other possible problems.
These issues are addressed along with the
final accounts (customers leaving our system)
and new accounts (customers entering our
system), before the bills are calculated
and printed.
In 1986, we serviced
approximately 9,000 customers. The bills
were generated by computer, but each bill
was hand sorted by zip code. In 2001, we
serviced approximately 33,500 customers and
their bills are sorted by zip code on the
computer.
