NEWS RELEASE

Seminole County Hurricane Expo - This Saturday June 13th
Posted on: 6/9/2009
Sanford, Fla., June 9, 2009- It's officially hurricane season. To aid families in preparation for this year's tropical storm period, the Seminole County Office of Emergency Management invites you to join us at a Hurricane Expo this weekend at the Seminole Towne Center Mall in Sanford. Meet us in the Center Court on Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first 50 Seminole County residents to stop by the Emergency Management booth will receive a free starter kit that includes: a Preparedness Guide; flashlight; Hurricane Flash card; prescription discount card and a DVD featuring segments on what you need to know before a storm, what to do during and safety tips for after a storm. Seminole County Office of Emergency Management encourages families to "Make a Plan, Get a Kit, and Stay Informed". It's all part of Prepare Seminole. The campaign was launched to assist families in their efforts to prepare for the season. Saturday's Hurricane Expo will focus on the importance of knowing evacuation zones, the threats our community may face this storm season, what plans every family should have in case they are asked to evacuate, the best places to evacuate to, and what each family should bring. Keep in mind that not everyone lives in an evacuation zone and it is not necessary to travel hundreds of miles to be safe. In addition to hurricanes, severe weather can occur at any time. Emergency managers remind all residents of Central Florida that the best time to prepare for severe weather is before it happens. In addition to hurricane preparedness information, officials at the Expo will teach you how to keep everyone in your household safe when strong thundershowers threaten. Just two weeks ago, eleven homes were damaged in Casselberry after a tornado hit just before midnight. What would you have done if this weather event struck your home? Plan now, before the winds start to blow. Join Emergency Management at the Hurricane Expo Saturday at the Seminole Towne Center in Sanford, just of I-4 at SR 46. |
