NEWS RELEASE

Seminole Commissioners Support New Jobs and Housing Assistance Programs
Posted on: 6/9/2009
Sanford, Fla., June 9, 2009-New jobs will be headed to Seminole County following Board approval of $60,000 in funding as part of a Jobs Growth Incentive Agreement between the County and The Fathers Table LLC (TFT), a privately-owned dessert manufacturer in Sanford. TFT grew 14.6 percent from 2007 to 2008, and to accommodate that growth, TFT will expand and open a new facility on Lake Mary Blvd. This new facility will generate 50 new jobs (30 full-time with benefits) within a three-year period and includes a capital investment of $2.5 million. The City of Sanford will contribute $30,000 towards the project.
Commissioners also approved the establishment of agreements between the County and selected landlords and participating tenants for the HOME Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program. The TBRA Program, funded under the HOME Program, provides rent subsidies for very low-income households in the County who are either disabled, elderly, or in a self-sufficiency program. The TBRA Program is currently offered by the Seminole County Housing Authority, the Sanford Housing Authority and the Center for Affordable Housing. Seminole County Community Assistance staff is assuming the Center for Affordable Housing's TBRA Program when its funding agreement expires on June 30, 2009.
Board approval was given to the 2009/2010 Detailed Work Plan Budget to secure $37,000 in State funding for mosquito control. The Seminole County Mosquito Control Program covers the County and its seven cities with measures to control mosquitoes from the larval stage through the adult life cycle.
In other business, it was smooth sailing as the Board approved agreements with the Cities of Casselberry and Sanford for Florida Boater Improvement Program funding. A 1998 resolution established rules for administration of the funds allocated to the County annually through boater registration fees collected by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. The resolution mandates that a maximum of 50 percent of the funds received annually be offered to municipalities within the County. Casselberry is proposing $20,000 in improvements to the canoe/kayak launch at Secret Lake Park and erosion protection along the channel shores connecting North, South and Middle Lake Triplet. Sanford is proposing $126,900 in improvements to the Sanford Marina including additional amenities, mooring buoys and parking lot restriping.
A new Environmental Services Director was confirmed at today's County Commission meeting. Andrew M. Neff will join the County on July 6, 2009. Mr. Neff brings with him more than 29 years of experience in state and local government, public works, utility operations and maintenance and the U.S. Air Force. He has served as Marion County's Utilities Director since 2007 and prior to that served as the City of Clearwater's Utilities Director for seven years.
Seminole County's senior population received acknowledgement for a sensitive subject. Supporting their belief that our seniors are valued members of society and that it is our collective responsibility to ensure they are protected and live with dignity, the Board proclaimed Monday, June 15, 2009 as "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day" in Seminole County. Residents were encouraged to commit to build safer communities for our elder residents.
