NEWS RELEASE

Seminole County Commissioners Support Sustaining Our Future
Posted on: 8/11/2009
Sanford, Fla., August 11, 2009-Today the Board of County Commissioners proclaimed Monday, August 24 to be Community Coordinated Care for Children (4C) Early Care and Education Awareness Day, recognizing the organization's contributions over the last 40 years. 4C is a private nonprofit that provides comprehensive early education services to residents of Seminole County and beyond. Their mission is to empower the community to provide for its future through developing, coordinating and strengthening programs that care for children.
Looking to sustain our community's environment, the Board also approved an agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy in acceptance of a $250,000 grant through their Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The program assists eligible entities in creating and implementing strategies to reduce energy use and improve the energy efficiency in the building, transportation and other sectors. In total, Seminole County was allocated $2.9 million under this grant program. For the total allocation to be received, the County must submit an application as well as an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy that details activities that would achieve the intent of the program. A second application will be submitted in November for the remaining funds.
