Seminole County Animal Shelter Like New After Devastating Fire

Sanford, Fla., August 12, 2009-The dog days of summer have proven to be a great time for the Seminole County Animal Shelter. On Thursday, August 13 from 1-3 p.m., staff will celebrate the completion of renovations with an open house. The shelter, located at 232 Bush Loop in Sanford, was severely damaged after a two-alarm fire in February 2007. Investigators ruled the cause of that fire to be electrical, and damage was estimated at more than $1 million. Several portions of the facility had to be rebuilt, including: the sally port (drive thru garage area), laundry room, vet tech clinic, small dog and stray cat holding areas, an office, bathroom and storeroom.
