Posted on: 9/23/2009
Sanford, Fla., Sept. 23, 2009 Thanks to the team work of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit and Seminole County Government, Seminole Countys Drug Court will soon expand its services, ultimately benefitting the entire community. For the next three years, $300,000 per year in federal grant money, administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), will enable the program to accommodate more participants and expand its treatment services to include the following: pretrial intervention vocational assessments and training life skills instruction HIV/Aids awareness education and testing expanded case management and continuing education for the drug court administrative team.
The goal of the Seminole County Drug Court is to deal with the underlying substance abuse problems of those who find themselves in the criminal justice system largely due to their addictions. According to Assistant State Attorney Sue Pierce, "Drug Courts have proven to be a cost effective way to reduce recidivism and improve the quality of life in the community."
Both the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit and Seminole County Government are excited about the opportunity to reach even more individuals with treatment, increase their chances of leading crime-free lives and ultimately reduce the burden on taxpayers. |
