NEWS RELEASE

Seminole County's Long Term Recovery Committee in Action
Posted on: 10/28/2009
Sanford, FL - Oct. 29, 2009 - Seminole HEART, Seminole County's Long Term Recovery Committee, has been working diligently to repair homes damaged from Tropical Storm Fay. Seminole HEART bridges the gap between FEMA/insurance funding and unmet needs of persons in Seminole County that have suffered damage from declared disasters. In many circumstances the funds that are provided by FEMA and insurance companies are not sufficient to complete all repair work required in a home. Seminole HEART uses volunteers and donations to help persons that are financial unable to pay for this gap or have medical issues preventing them from completing the work on their own.
This week, members from the United Methodist Church from out of the area, have been working on two homes that were flooded during the Tropical Storm Fay event. The homes, one in Altamonte Springs and one in Sanford, have families that have great needs. Both residences suffered from black mold, mildew, and damaged flooring from the flood waters. This group, from St. Johns United Methodist Church in Polk County, volunteered their time to come to Seminole County to replace drywall, flooring, paint, and complete tile work on the homes.
Over the last two weeks, groups from the Lutheran Church of America, the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, and Youth Build have provided assistance working on homes that are still in disrepair.
