Seminole County Fire Department Scores Near Perfect on the State's Operational Readiness and Monitoring Evaluation
Posted on: 10/29/2009
Sanford, Fl - October 29, 2009 - The Seminole County Fire Department recently concluded an assessment of its Regional Hazardous Materials/Type II Weapons of Mass Destruction Response Team. The assessment, conducted by the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office, evaluates several key points in order to assess operational readiness and response capabilities of the Seminole County Special Hazards and Operations Team.
The State's Domestic Security Program Coordinator assessed Seminole County's hazardous materials medical plans, response policies, equipment capability, agency certification and training. In a letter issued by the Domestic Security Program of the State Fire Marshal's Office, Seminole County Fire Department scored 99% on the evaluation. This evaluation stresses the importance of having a response ready hazardous materials team, in the event of a hazardous materials or domestic Weapons of Mass Destruction incident.
In addition to mitigating hazardous materials incidents, the Seminole County Special Hazard and Operations Team are also capable of handling high angle, structural collapse, trench and extrication rescues. Many members of the Hazardous Materials Team also serve on the State of Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 4, which provides regional emergency support for the state.
The Seminole County Fire Department provides this special hazards operation service for Seminole County and its cities, saving the need for duplication of services in the region; further saving taxpayer dollars.
