Jacksonville Times Union Newspaper April 27, 1904 SANFORD’S SOLID PUBLIC LIBRARY The people of Sanford, and more evidently, the ladies, are taking a decided interest in the establishment of a public library, which will in all respects be a credit to the city. During the past fifteen years, several heroic attempts have been made to establish this institution, but they have failed.
About two years ago Mrs. H. L. De Forest took the active lead in this work, and the result is that today the city is the proud possessor of a decidedly interesting library.
For the purpose of increasing the number of volumes of the latest and best literature, several of the young people have volunteered to present a play at the opera house Thursday evening, and have selected for the occasion, A Pair of Idiots.
These young people have appeared upon the stage as amateur performers several times before and are all quite popular in their respective roles.
A handsome sum is confidently anticipated from this source.
