Traffic Safety
Seminole County
Traffic Engineering, in cooperation with
the law enforcement agencies, collects and
compiles traffic crash data and performs
a variety of statistical analyses and reports.
An annual report containing the crash history
of various intersections and roadway segments
is published in March of every year for the
preceding calendar year.

The primary objective of this process is to identify the locations with high crash frequency and through a comprehensive
safety study, determine any feasible mitigating solution to remedy the identified problem.
When reviewing crash histories, several important factors must be noted:
1. In general, crash frequencies tend to have a direct relationship with traffic volumes and capacities in urban areas.
2. Severity of crashes tend to increase in general terms as the traveling speeds increase.
3. The majority of crashes list the contributing factors as driver error.
4. The majority of the crashes at signalized intersections are rear-end crashes.
5. Statistically, certain crash patterns and frequencies are expected under normal conditions.
